Just enjoying making
Getting back to enjoying making work after four and a half years of academia. The joy comes from making work and undertaking research just for me.
Reflecting on the alchemy inherent in fire and electrolysis to transform wood and metal.

Working on a New piece

Wall piece 107 x 40 cm. plate are 20 x 6 cm. The plates are copper clones made by the electrotyping process of an original aluminium plate. The timber I have for the base is 5 cm thick, so the whole piece is going to quite heavy.

Further Experimentation with Electrotyping
Getting playful and experimental after the academic rigour of the PhD.
First photograph as the artefacts came out of the electrolytic cell. They all had a total of 36 hours of electrolysis. The medallions are 5.5 x 8 cm. and 5.0 x 8 cm. and the buddha head 13 x 8 cm.

The larger off the medallions weighs 33.9 gm. and the smaller 26.1 gm. the Buddha head 38.6 gm.

Saline Sulphate & Electro- Etching Workshop Regional Print Centre Wrexham
Saline sulphate and electro-etching with Don Braisby
1/2 June 2017
10:00-16:00
This workshop will teach two etching processes that can be used to etch at home or in a classroom situation, these are saline sulphate and electro-etching.
Both processes have been described as being ‘safe etching’ however in this workshop we will focus on their potential for alternative mark making rather than on their non-toxic credentials. Don Braisby who is teaching the workshop is completing his doctoral thesis on electro-etching.
Workshops aim:
- Provide a simple introduction to the theory and practice of electro- etching.
- Introduce the equipment needed for electro-etching and plating, how to set it up and use it safely.
- Creative plate making, resists and stop outs
- Preparation and etching of plates.
Objectives:
- Participants will have gained a working knowledge of both saline sulphate and electro-etching
- To make and proof at least one plate in each process.
- Introduced to electroforming and electrotyping as a potential process in sculpture and printmaking.
- provide feedback for use in research.

Temptation and Fall
Completed table top sculpture (59cm x 16cm). References Jasper Johns Light Bulb series. The apple and pear are floating on a copper base that is an electrotype copy of a piece of rusted iron that I have been saving for making another object in the same series.
